Tuesday, January 13, 2008 Sustainable Ergonomics using LEAN Principles Anita Worden and Erin Black ASSE Speakers This program will provide a template for creating a sustainable ergonomics program using the principles of LEAN. Information presented will include a variety of methods and tools that can be used to improve your existing ergonomics program while reducing waste, cost, and complexity. As Musculoskeletal Disorders account for an average of 50% of workplace injuries, practical application of these principles will guide the safety novice or professional to a more effective ergonomics process. Anita Worden is the Director, Global Sustainability, Environment and Safety Compliance Programs for Sara Lee Corporation headquartered in Downers Grove, IL. Her responsibilities include assuring compliance with E&S legal requirements and corporate policies and developing global programs for 50,000 employees. Anita currently is also leading the safety focus group for Sustainability at Sara Lee. She is currently the Vice Chair for the American Baking Association Safety Committee and Co-Chair of the Ergonomics committee for the Food and Beverage section of the National Safety Council. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and over 20 years in safety and health management in various food manufacturing and corn wet milling settings. Anita has been a member of ASSE since 1994. She resides with her family in Naperville, IL. Erin Black is the Director of Safety and Environmental for the Sara Lee Fresh Manufacturing based in the Downers Grove, IL -Sara Lee headquarters location. Erin has worked at Sara Lee for the last 4 years, and also supported several meat and frozen bakery facilities. Erin brings many years of experience in safety, security and environmental compliance in addition to extensive LEAN work. Prior to joining Sara Lee, Erin served as the Director for Safety and Environmental for Burns Philp Group. Burns Philp manufactures well known brands such as Fleishman’s Yeast, Tone’s Spices, Durkee, and Spice Islands. Additional EHS experience includes working as a safety engineer for Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Company. Erin received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Safety Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Keene State College, Keene NH. In addition Erin earned a Master of Science degree in Adult Education from Drake University, Des Moines IA. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Iowa-Illinois Safety Council and Iowa Recycling Association and currently serves as the co-chair for the Environmental Stewardship Committee as part of the AMI (American Meat Institute) Environmental Committee.
